“Easier for who?” I demanded. Every word felt heavier than the last. I couldn’t understand how he had decided my feelings didn’t matter.
The room felt small and tense, and even Jessica seemed uncomfortable being pulled into the conflict. She quietly stepped aside, clearly wishing she were anywhere else.
